Within the scope of the large-scale corruption and terrorism investigations launched into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), the total number of detentions has risen to 254 with the 5th wave of operations carried out today. A total of 110 people have been arrested in the operations conducted in five separate waves. 7 people were released after benefiting from effective remorse provisions.
The 5th wave of operations was carried out today as part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Detention warrants were issued for 47 people, including Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Adana Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, and Adana Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin. 30 people were taken into custody.
1st Wave (March 19): İmamoğlu and 53 People Arrested
The investigations began on March 19. 54 people, including IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, his advisor Murat Ongun, and Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, were arrested. 44 suspects were released under judicial control conditions.
2nd Wave (April 26): Dilek İmamoğlu's Brother Arrested
In the second operation, 18 people were arrested, including Dilek İmamoğlu's brother Cevat Kaya, İSKİ General Manager Şafak Başa, and Bosphorus Reconstruction Manager Elçin Karaoğlu.
3rd Wave (May 20): Media and Promotion Unit Targeted
13 people were arrested, including IMM Head of Press and Public Relations Taner Çetin and Çeşme Deputy Mayor Onur Gülin. Culture A.Ş. Manager Murat Abbas and advisor Ertan Yıldız benefited from effective remorse provisions.
4th Wave (May 23): Operation Against Top-Level Bureaucrats
25 people were arrested, including high-level executives such as IMM Chief of Staff Kadriye Kasapoğlu, KİPTAŞ General Manager Ali Kurt, İSTAÇ General Manager Ziya Gökmen Togay, and IMM Head of Rail Systems Department Ceyhun Avşar.
Number of Effective Remorse Cases Increasing
So far, a total of 7 people have been released after testifying under the scope of effective remorse. These individuals include names such as Eyüp Subaşı, Kabil Taşçı, Güngör Gürman, Murat Abbas, and Ertan Yıldız.
