Japanese earthquake expert issues warning for a specific province: 'An earthquake will definitely happen'

Japanese earthquake expert Yoshinori Moriwaki issued striking warnings in Aydın regarding Turkey's earthquake risk.

The Japanese expert said, "An earthquake will definitely happen somewhere in Turkey. Everyone must be prepared for this. We must accept this reality and act accordingly."

Stating that 50 percent of Turkey's building stock, which exceeds 21 million, is illegal, Moriwaki said that this situation poses a major risk and that building inspections must be made mandatory for earthquake safety.

HE SPECIFICALLY WARNED THAT PROVINCE

The Japanese earthquake expert stated that Aydın is a province that carries earthquake risk, but a major earthquake is not expected in the short term.

Drawing attention to the region's flat and soft soil structure, Moriwaki said, "These characteristics make the ground dangerous during an earthquake. The people of Aydın should not let their guard down."

Stating that Turkey is the 17th most at-risk country in the world in terms of earthquakes, Moriwaki pointed out that Turkey ranks 3rd in terms of loss of life.

Pointing to the risk of the fault line extending from Adana to Cyprus, the expert warned, "The western branch of the East Anatolian Fault Line goes from Adana towards Cyprus.

The probability of this fault line breaking is high."

Moriwaki said, "In Japan, building inspections and technological infrastructure minimize loss of life. It is essential for Turkey to benefit from this experience."
