Journalist Sinan Burhan, known for his proximity to the government, shared important insider information regarding the amnesty regulation, which is one of the most debated topics in the public eye within the scope of the 10th Judicial Package.
Speaking on the Gündem Özel program broadcast on tv100, Burhan claimed that deputies belonging to the People's Alliance are preparing to submit the execution regulation to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this Tuesday.
According to what Burhan conveyed, the regulation will be valid for crimes committed before July 31, 2023. Convicts with sentences of 3 years or less will be able to benefit from the regulation regardless of the type of crime.
Approximately 35 thousand people falling within this scope are expected to be released from prisons before the Eid al-Adha.
WILL COVER A TOTAL OF 55 THOUSAND PEOPLE
It is projected that a total of approximately 55 thousand people will benefit from the upcoming execution regulation within one year. Although the regulation, which will lead to a significant emptying of prisons, is criticized by the public as having the nature of an amnesty, officials emphasize that this is technically not an "amnesty," but rather a change in the execution regime.
Sharing the details of the regulation, Sinan Burhan stated that serious flexibilities will be introduced in the ways sentences are executed. Burhan said, "Those whose sentences are under 3 years will be released from prison, regardless of the crime.
For example, if a person received a 10-year sentence and has served 7 years, the remaining 3 years will be covered by this regulation. If this person is in a closed prison, they will move to an open prison, and those who are already in open prisons will benefit from probation," he said.
NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN CRIMES
According to the information provided by Burhan, there will be no distinction made between organized crimes and common crimes in the regulation. Stating that equal application will be made for everyone in accordance with the fundamental principles of law, Burhan expressed that in this respect, the regulation will cover a wide audience.
It has been reported that the technical work on this amendment to the Law on the Execution of Penal and Security Measures is nearing completion.
