Marmara shaken twice: Critical warning from Naci Görür!
Two earthquakes measuring 3.9 and 4.2 in magnitude occurred one hour apart in the Gemlik district of Bursa. The tremors were also felt in Istanbul and Yalova. Prof. Dr. Naci Görür issued critical warnings for the Marmara region.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 occurred today at 11:47 AM, with its epicenter in the Gemlik district of Bursa. The earthquake took place at a depth of 9.82 kilometers. The Kandilli Observatory, meanwhile, reported the magnitude of the earthquake as 4.0.
The tremor was also felt in Istanbul, Yalova, and the surrounding areas. Citizens experienced brief moments of panic.
AFTERSHOCK CAME AN HOUR LATER
Following the first earthquake, a second tremor occurred at 12:57 PM. This time, the magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 4.2. AFAD reported that the second earthquake occurred at a depth of 10.14 kilometers. The aftershock was also felt in neighboring provinces.
SUCCESSIVE WARNINGS FROM NACI GÖRÜR
Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür stated in a post on his social media account that the earthquake in Gemlik occurred on the southern branch of the North Anatolian Fault (NAF). Görür used the following expressions:
“A 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Şahinyurdu-Gemlik/Bursa. It is on the southern branch of the NAF. We are expecting an earthquake on the northern branch of the NAF in Marmara, but this area is also important. It accumulates energy slowly, but it is dangerous. Administrators must be careful and make this place earthquake-resistant. The public must demand it.”
Making another statement following the second earthquake, Görür this time emphasized an “earthquake-resistant Gemlik”:
“Another shallow earthquake of 4.4 magnitude occurred in Şahinyurdu-Gemlik/Bursa. The call to make this region earthquake-resistant should be conveyed to our administrators once again on this occasion. EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT GEMLIK. With love.”
