Journalist Enver Aysever claimed that Memleket Party Chairman Muharrem İnce will return to the CHP. Suggesting that İnce has met with CHP leader Özgür Özel and the 7th Chairman of the CHP, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Aysever stated the following:
“While a process is underway for the Memleket Party to regain its right to participate in elections, Muharrem İnce is meeting with Özgür Özel and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. The reason is this; Muharrem İnce is entering a negotiation process and believes that under the current conditions in Turkey, the CHP is once again important as an umbrella, and that even if one needs to express a dissenting opinion under these circumstances, channels of dialogue must remain open. Ultimately, in the conversation held with Özgür Özel, an invitation is extended to İnce, and İnce says he will join the CHP.”
Aysever also added, “Let us say that within a week or 10 days, İnce will make a move that could change the political equation within the CHP. He will become a member of the CHP.”
Aysever’s claim stirred the political circles in Ankara. CHP MP Ali Öztunç also confirmed Aysever’s claim in a statement he made. Speaking on Sözcü TV, Öztunç said, “I have information on this, it is true.” Öztunç noted the following:
“According to the information I have, everyone knows that Mr. Muharrem has an intention to come to the Republican People’s Party. However, I do not know the stance of the Republican People’s Party headquarters management on this issue. But I do know that Mr. Muharrem has such a desire, a wish to return to his ‘father’s hearth.’”
'HE WANTS TO RETURN TO HIS FATHER'S HEARTH'
“We have friends in Mr. Muharrem’s close circle with whom we have a rapport. They state that Mr. Muharrem has a desire to return to his father’s hearth. I do not think this will be concluded immediately. The agenda will likely be more about the injustices, unlawful sanctions, and unfair practices experienced recently. However, I do not know what the headquarters thinks about this or what kind of plan the Chairman has regarding this. This information has not been shared at this moment.”
A statement regarding the claims and remarks in question has come from sources within the Memleket Party. According to a report by Cumhuriyet, sources within the Memleket Party close to İnce denied the claims, stating, “There is no such situation.”
