The 4.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred yesterday evening in the Sivrice district of Elazığ was also felt in surrounding provinces. According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the earthquake took place at 21:09.
It was stated that the tremor occurred at a depth of 11.31 kilometers.
Following the earthquake, earth scientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made statements on his social media account. Görür pointed out that the earthquake occurred at a point closer to Malatya.
Stating that the earthquake occurred on a left-lateral fault line to the west of the Pütürge segment, Görür emphasized that the region was heavily affected by the major earthquakes that took place on February 6, 2023.
Prof. Dr. Naci Görür included the following statements in his explanation:
"The earthquake occurred in a region closer to Malatya, on a left-lateral fault to the west of the Pütürge segment. This region was heavily loaded during the February 6 earthquakes. The earthquake is due to that. My fellow citizens should rest easy."
Following the earthquake in the region, relevant institutions, primarily AFAD, are continuing their work in the field, and it was stated that no negative reports have been received so far.
