Naci Görür's 'critical fault' statement: A critical warning for that province! It can produce a major earthquake

The Saimbeyli district of Adana was shaken by a frightening earthquake during the night connecting June 23 to June 24. According to the Kandilli Observatory, the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded as 4.5, while AFAD recorded it as 4.6. It was reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 7 kilometers.

The tremor was felt in the city center of Adana, as well as in the districts of Kozan, Tufanbeyli, and surrounding areas. According to initial assessments, there was no loss of life or property.

Following the earthquake, Earth Scientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made an important assessment on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). Emphasizing that the earthquake occurred on the Saimbeyli Fault Zone, Görür issued the following warning:

"A 4.6-magnitude earthquake occurred in Yeniköy/Saimbeyli, Adana. The earthquake took place on the Saimbeyli Fault Zone. This zone is a left-lateral strike-slip fault line. It is approximately 40 km long and has the potential to produce earthquakes reaching a magnitude of 7.0. Following the major earthquakes on February 6, 2023, the stress field in the region may have changed. One must be careful. Get well soon."

Görür stated that the fault zone in question may be related to the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. He pointed out that the Saimbeyli Fault Zone has experienced renewed stress accumulation following these major earthquakes.

For this reason, he stated that one should remain vigilant against the possibility of new and larger tremors occurring in the region.
