New detail emerges regarding the suicide of newborn gang defendant İlker Gönen

Doctor İlker Gönen, one of the defendants in the 'newborn gang' case who was being held at the Döşemealtı High-Security Closed Penal Institution in Antalya, committed suicide in his solitary cell today at around 16:00.

Following the suicide of Gönen, who lost his life, the prosecutor's office launched an investigation into the prison staff.

Journalist Emrullah Erdinç, who reported on the background of the suicide, wrote the following:

“The person who committed suicide is Doctor İlker Gönen, who worked at Fırat Sarı’s company. In the photo I published, the part where İlker Gönen was with his children has been cropped out.”

It has emerged that Gönen regretted his suicide attempt in prison and pressed the emergency button for help.

Gönen, who had been detained at the Antalya High-Security Prison since October 29, broke a tea glass and cut his wrists with the glass shards.

“HE PRESSED THE EMERGENCY BUTTON, CALLED THE GUARDS”

Gönen, who sustained a deep cut on his right wrist and a light cut on his left, began to lose blood. Gönen, who was staying in a solitary cell, pressed the emergency button to call the guards.

After the initial intervention, Gönen was transferred to the hospital by ambulance but lost his life on the way.

Since it is forbidden to give glass cups to inmates in prison, the prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the prison administration and has begun reviewing camera footage.”
