While the impact of the large-scale betting and match-fixing investigations launched in the world of football in Turkey continues, a new criminal complaint has emerged regarding the TFF 1st League match between Ümraniyespor and Giresunspor.
In the application made to the prosecutor's office by businessman Cüneyt Semirli, a detailed account of match-fixing regarding the match in question was provided.
CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FILED WITH PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
While the process in which the Football Federation referred 1024 footballers to the PFDK (Professional Football Discipline Committee) due to betting continues, a complaint was filed with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office alleging that match-fixing occurred for the match played on December 24, 2023.
It was stated that the application was submitted on behalf of Semirli by his lawyer, Emre Sirac Pamuk. The petition stated that Semirli himself had also placed bets on this match and that he wished to benefit from effective remorse provisions.
According to the information in the petition, it was reported that on December 20, 2023, Semirli was contacted via WhatsApp by Ümit Kaya, the owner of an 'iddaa' betting shop, who offered a match-fixing deal for the Ümraniyespor–Giresunspor game.
It was stated that Kaya was in contact with former Adanaspor footballer and agent Koray Şanlı, and that he provided information that an agreement could be reached with certain Giresunspor players through these individuals.
MEETING HELD IN ISTANBUL
It was noted that Semirli and Kaya were brought together in Istanbul on December 23, 2023, where the match-fixing payment was set at $20,000.
It was reported that Semirli sent his share of the amount via EFT to the account specified by Kaya. It was stated that Koray Şanlı also participated in the meeting held at the Palladium Mall on the same day.
MEETING ARRANGED AT THE TEAM HOTEL
In the continuation of the meeting, it was stated that Semirli and Kaya were taken to the hotel where Giresunspor was staying in Ümraniye. It was alleged that a room was rented at the hotel and the room number was provided to Koray Şanlı, but that Şanlı did not enter the hotel on the grounds that he would be recognized by former executives. It was stated that Ümit Kaya followed the match at the stadium.
$20,000 ALLEGEDLY HANDED OVER
The petition stated that after a while, Giresunspor defender Faruk Can Genç came to the room, and Koray Şanlı joined the meeting via a video call.
While the details of the match-fixing agreement were being discussed, it was alleged that $20,000 in cash was handed over by Ümit Kaya to the footballer Faruk Can Genç.
LARGE BETS PLACED BEFORE THE MATCH
It was stated that Semirli placed large amounts of bets on foreign betting sites under the direction of Ümit Kaya for the match to be played the next day. It was also stated that heavy betting was placed on the same match through the 'iddaa' shop owned by Kaya.
It was recalled that within the scope of the betting penalties announced by the Turkish Football Federation on November 13, sanctions were applied to 102 footballers.
It was noted that Faruk Can Genç, who was among those names, received a 3-month ban from sports activities on the grounds that he had placed bets, and that he is currently playing for Vanspor.
