In the murder case of Narin Güran, who was reported missing on August 21 in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found 19 days later, her mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and uncle Salim Güran were sentenced to life imprisonment for committing the murder together. In the trial held at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court, the confessing defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison.

FATHER ARIF GÜRAN HAS APPEALED THE COURT DECISION

Narin Güran's father, Arif Güran, has taken the court's decision to the appellate court, requesting a re-evaluation. Initially objecting to the Diyarbakır Bar Association's participation in the case, Güran then argued that the court's decision did not reveal the true perpetrator, expressing the following view:

"As a result of the trial regarding the murder of the client's apple of his eye, Narin Güran, the material truth could not be reached in a definitive and clear manner. In the words of the client, the person or persons whom he will hold accountable in this world and, according to his faith, in the afterlife, could not be determined."

ALLEGATION THAT FORENSIC FINDINGS WERE INSUFFICIENTLY EXAMINED

Father Güran argued that forensic reports were not sufficiently evaluated during the court process. Claiming that samples taken from his daughter's body were not examined in detail, Güran stated:

"Positive results were obtained from some stains detected on the outer front swab sample of the panties, the panties, the purple skirt, and the headscarf. Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), found in semen and urine, was detected in the samples in question. The presence of PSA in semen and urine, and its detection in Narin Güran's private area, on the purple skirt, and on the headscarf, should be examined and this matter should be pursued. However, these details were ignored, and the goal of reaching the material truth was undermined."

OBJECTION TO THE SENTENCE OF DEFENDANT NEVZAT BAHTİYAR

Father Güran objected to the sentence given by the court, arguing that the confessing defendant in the case, Nevzat Bahtiyar, gave contradictory statements and was the actual killer. He included the following claims in his petition:

"It is contrary to law and conscience that the defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar—who fit Narin Güran's body into a sack and hid it by the creek, went and drank tea at his sister-in-law's house with a cold-blooded demeanor, bought cheese from his sister-in-law, then performed his prayers, continued his normal life, participated in search activities for the missing child, and tried to console the family, especially the father, that Narin Güran would be found—was sentenced for destroying evidence of a crime instead of being punished for the crime of intentional murder of a child under Article 82/1-e of the Turkish Penal Code."
