New footage has emerged of 66-year-old Selçuk Tengioğlu, who carried out a physical assault on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel outside the AKM, where he had attended a ceremony for the late Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder. The footage shows Tengioğlu at the hotel in Beyoğlu where he was staying before the attack.
In the footage captured by the hotel's security camera, Tengioğlu is seen drinking tea and chatting with a hotel staff member.
HE DRANK TEA AND CHATTED BEFORE THE ATTACK
In his initial statement, 66-year-old Tengioğlu said, "I had previously applied to the Republican People's Party for a food card, but they did not give me one because I was not a party member. Because of this, I had been angry for a long time. I had been harboring the anger I built up regarding the CHP calling young people to the streets. I left the apartment hotel where I was staying in Taksim, and I heard there was a program. I didn't actually have an intention to attack when I went there, but I couldn't control my temper when I saw him."
The moments when the attacker drank tea and chatted with the receptionist at the hotel where he stayed before attacking Özel were captured by the hotel's security camera.
