In the traffic accident that occurred on March 1, 2024, in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, which deeply shook public opinion, 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Aci lost his life. The accident was caused by a luxury vehicle driven without a license by 17-year-old Timur Cihantimur, the son of author Eylem Tok. While Aci lost his life in the accident, three other people present at the scene were also injured.

Following this tragedy, Aci's parents, Özer Aci and Pervin Aci, applied to the Istanbul Family Court against their daughter-in-law, Şükriye Aci. The grandfather and grandmother requested the "establishment of personal contact with the child" to secure their right to see their 2-year-old grandson, Pars.

Striking allegations were included in the lawsuit petition submitted to the court. The grandfather and grandmother stated that Şükriye Aci had clearly declared in interviews given to the media that she would not let them see Pars. The petition included the following statements:

"After her husband's death, Şükriye Aci chose to reach an agreement with the family of Timur Cihantimur, who caused the accident, in exchange for financial and moral compensation, and therefore withdrew her complaint. Furthermore, in interviews she gave to various news sites, she announced that she would not allow my clients to see Pars. All of our grandson's needs have been met by us to date. Despite this, not being able to see our grandson is an unacceptable situation."

REQUEST FOR VISITATION ONE NIGHT A WEEK AND DURING HOLIDAYS

Pointing out that Pars is at a developmental age, the grandfather and grandmother asked the court to grant them the right to see their grandson on specific days. These requests were listed in the petition as follows:

"For the healthy psychological development of our grandson, we request that he stay with us at least one night a week and that he spend time with us during religious and national holidays, as well as during semester and summer breaks. We want these visits to be guaranteed by a court order."

Another remarkable element in the petition was the allegation that Şükriye Aci had withdrawn her complaint. Şükriye Aci, who was alleged to have taken a step back by meeting with the family of the perpetrator in the process regarding the accident that caused the death of Oğuz Murat Aci in exchange for the settlement of her financial and moral damages, had also drawn public backlash.
