In a scandal that began with the hacking of Turkey's e-government system by a criminal gang, fake undergraduate diplomas were sold for money.
Those who purchased them were able to see their graduation records on the e-government portal. With these records, it even became possible to take exams for public institutions.
OSMANOĞLU'S FAKE DIPLOMA CANCELLED
One of the notable names among those who obtained a fake diploma was Abdülhamid Kayıhan Osmanoğlu, a descendant of Sultan Abdülhamid II. It was revealed that Osmanoğlu had obtained a history degree from İnönü University. This diploma, which was obtained solely for money, has been cancelled.
It was also determined that Osmanoğlu had repeatedly checked his fake diploma on his mobile phone via the e-government portal. In the fake diploma case filed against him, his file was separated from the other defendants.
Following the exposure of the scandal, Osmanoğlu targeted the news reports published about him.
Osmanoğlu filed a 30,000 TL compensation lawsuit against Hürriyet for the news report titled "The Ancestor's Descendant with a Fake Diploma" that appeared in the press. He also requested an access ban on the news reports.
