In Turkey, workers must provide written consent to be required to work on national holidays and public holidays. This consent can be included in the employment contract or obtained separately at the beginning of each year or before each holiday. CALCULATION OF OVERTIME PAY

According to Article 47 of Labor Law No. 4857, workers who work on national holidays and public holidays are paid an additional day's wage for each day worked. In other words, a worker who works on a holiday is entitled to a total of two days' wages. If the holiday coincides with the weekly day off and the worker is employed, the worker must be paid 2.5 days' wages.

HOW MUCH OVERTIME WILL MINIMUM WAGE WORKERS RECEIVE?

The gross minimum wage determined for 2025 is 26,005.50 TL. The daily gross wage corresponds to 866.85 TL. In this case, a minimum wage worker who works for 3.5 days during the holiday will receive a total gross additional payment of 3,033.98 TL.

HOW MUCH OVERTIME WILL BE PAID FOR HOLIDAY DAYS COINCIDING WITH THE WEEKLY DAY OFF?

If holiday days coincide with the weekly day off, the wage to be paid to the worker increases. For example, a worker who works on a holiday that is also their weekly day off must be paid 2.5 times their normal daily wage. In this case, a worker with a daily wage of 1,000 TL will receive 2,500 TL for working on that holiday.

WORKING DURING THE HOLIDAY IS NOT MANDATORY

The employer cannot force the worker to work during the holiday. Employing a worker on holidays without their written consent may constitute a valid reason for termination in favor of the worker, and the worker may be entitled to severance pay in this case. Furthermore, it is not possible to grant leave to a worker who has worked during the holiday as compensation for their work; additional payment must be made for the work performed.
