Özgecan Aslan's murderer was killed in prison: A striking detail in the case! 4 people planned it

Gültekin Alan, who killed Ahmet Suphi Altındöken—the murderer of university student Özgecan Aslan in the Tarsus district of Mersin—at the Adana Prison, claimed in his testimony in court that he did not carry out the assassination alone. Alan's claims, in which he alleged that he planned the murder with 4 other people, were not found credible by the court.

MURDERED IN PRISON IN 2016

Özgecan Aslan's killer, Suphi Altındöken, and his father, Necmittin Altındöken, were subjected to an armed attack by inmate Gültekin Alan at the Adana F-Type Closed Prison on April 11, 2016. Suphi Altındöken lost his life, while his father was injured. Following the investigation launched after the incident, a lawsuit was filed against Gültekin Alan, who committed the murder, as well as prison guard Hacı Ahmet Ö., inmate Hüsamettin B., who was alleged to have smuggled the weapon into the prison, his wife Gamze B., Ahmet Tekin B., Ferat Y., and Serkan A.

CONVICTION AND ACQUITTAL DECISIONS

As a result of the trial, Gültekin Alan was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'premeditated murder.' He was also sentenced to a total of 29 years, 9 months, and 10 days in prison for the crimes of 'attempted premeditated murder,' 'insult,' 'smuggling prohibited items into prison,' and 'depriving prison guards of their liberty.' The other defendants were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation overturned the acquittal decisions on the grounds that the investigation was incomplete and sent the file back to the local court. The General Assembly of Criminal Chambers of the Court of Cassation upheld Gültekin Alan's sentence but overturned the acquittal decision regarding the other defendants and ruled for a retrial.

In the retrial held at the Adana 5th High Criminal Court, Gültekin Alan was heard as a witness. Claiming in court that he did not commit the murder alone, Alan alleged that they planned the act with 4 people. Alan testified, "We decided to commit this murder together with Ferat Y., Ahmet Tekin B., and Adem Ç. The person who brought the weapon into the prison was Ahmet Tekin B., and the one who provided the logistical support was Ferat Y."
