The commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) as part of the new reconciliation process—which MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli is the architect of and which the government calls a "Terror-Free Turkey"—will hold its first meeting today.
While public debate continues regarding the transparency of the process, journalist Fatih Altaylı, who is currently imprisoned at Silivri Prison, has brought a striking claim regarding MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli to the agenda.
It has been alleged that Bahçeli, who has referred to terrorist leader Öcalan as a "founding leader" as the process has matured, sent a poem to the terrorist leader.
Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who has been imprisoned for 45 days, wrote in a letter sent through his lawyers that Bahçeli sent a poem by Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı to Öcalan and that there was also a note accompanying the poem.
Altaylı's letter reads as follows:
“MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli sent a poem to Abdullah Öcalan. I am not joking. Bahçeli sent a poem by Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı to Öcalan. What a piece of information, right?
He also wrote a note. He said, 'If Öcalan is not making it up, I salute the architect of the process with respect.' I say this for the following reason: There is a harmony, a unity of understanding between the two that goes beyond what is assumed.”
