Poll asks 'Will the PKK lay down its arms?' following Bahçeli's 'Öcalan' call

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's handshake with DEM Party deputies at the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) and his subsequent call regarding Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, continue to remain on the agenda.

In his call regarding the terrorist leader Öcalan, Bahçeli had stated, "If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him come and speak at the DEM Party group meeting in the TBMM. Let him declare that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been dissolved. If he shows this resolve and determination, let the path be wide open for legal arrangements regarding the use of the right to hope and for him to benefit from it."

Following Bahçeli's unexpected move, as discussions about a new resolution process have intensified in the public eye, ASAL Research conducted a noteworthy survey.

In the survey conducted in November with 2 thousand 15 participants, the participants were asked, "Do you think the terrorist organization PKK will lay down its arms?" and "Do you think the terrorist organization PKK represents the Kurds?"

According to the survey by the company, which shared the results on its social media account, participants responded to the question "Do you think the terrorist organization PKK will lay down its arms?" as follows:

- Yes, it will: 17.5 percent

- No, it will not: 75.1 percent

- No opinion/No answer: 7.4 percent

Participants responded to the other survey question, "Do you think the terrorist organization PKK represents the Kurds?" as follows:

- Yes, it represents: 3.7 percent

- No, it does not represent: 90.1 percent

- No opinion/No answer: 6.2 percent

Additionally, the company shared the distribution of the responses based on the voters' political parties.
