At a time when claims that the terrorist organization PKK will lay down its arms are on the agenda, the demands of the DEM delegation are drawing attention.
According to insider information reported by Nefes columnist Nuray Babacan, the DEM Party delegation presented a list of 50 names, the vast majority of whom are alleged to be "members of the organization," to officials during their meeting with the Ministry of Justice.
It is stated that the list requests the release of certain inmates held in prison on the grounds that they are "not being released despite being ill" or that their "sentence execution periods were calculated incorrectly."
A DETAIL NOT COVERED IN THE PRESS HAS EMERGED
After relaying the known details of the meeting by saying, "Up to this point, it has already been covered in the press," Nuray Babacan emphasized that the issue of the list had not been brought up in the media.
Stating that "The delegation is circulating with a list of 'almost all of whom are members of the organization' who are still in prison, whose release is being delayed despite being ill, and who are still being held because their sentence calculations were done incorrectly," Babacan noted that this list is being evaluated by the ministry.
It had been announced that the DEM delegation would meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on July 9 following their contact with the Ministry of Justice.
According to Babacan, the delegation wants to both demonstrate that they are contributing to the process and explain their priorities through specific names during the meeting with Erdoğan.
