With the data, there has been an increase in the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) rates applied to alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.
Accordingly, the 6-month producer inflation was determined to be 7.56 percent, and this rate became applicable to the hike on alcohol and tobacco products.
For alcoholic beverages, the SCT per liter of alcohol applied to rakı has risen to 1,365.71 TL.
Tax Expert Dr. Ozan Bingöl stated in a post on his social media account that the SCT rate per liter of alcohol in 2010 was only 51 TL 48 kuruş, and emphasized that the increase over 15 years is 2,553 percent.
Bingöl expressed that the high tax burden triggers the production of illicit alcohol and threatens public health.
While the SCT increase for cigarettes was set at 2.5 TL, Erol Dündar, President of the Monopoly Dealers Solidarity Association, said they expect a price increase of between 4-5 TL on tobacco products along with the rise in costs.
