Sentence requested for attacker who vandalized Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi's grave

Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, the 15-year-old son of renowned Italian chef Andrea Minguzzi and cellist Yasemin Akıncılar, was shopping at the historic Salı Pazarı in Kadıköy on January 24, 2025, when he got into an argument with B.B.; as a result of the argument, B.B. stabbed Ahmet Minguzzi five times. U.B., who was with him at the time, kicked the child as he lay on the ground covered in blood.

Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, who fought for his life for 14 days, passed away despite all interventions. The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had prepared an indictment for the crime of “intentional killing of a child,” seeking a prison sentence of 18 to 24 years.

The prepared indictment was accepted by the Istanbul Anatolian 2nd Juvenile High Criminal Court. In the hearing held on April 10 at the Anatolian Courthouse 2nd Juvenile High Criminal Court in Kartal, it was decided that the defendants would remain in custody, and the second hearing of the case was adjourned to May 8.

GRAVE VANDALIZED

The grave of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, who was taken from life, was vandalized on the day the first hearing was to be held.

Duran A., who was detained by teams from the Public Security Branch Office's Robbery Bureau regarding the incident, was sent to prison after being arrested by the Duty Magistrate's Court for the crime of 'damaging places of worship and cemeteries' following his referral to the Bakırköy Courthouse after his police interrogation.

HIS STATEMENT HAS EMERGED

It was learned that the suspect, who said in his initial statement to the police, "I live in cemeteries. I saw the child in the newspapers and was curious about his grave. I went to it, my foot got caught in the fence and I fell. I got angry and kicked the fences," stated in his testimony to the prosecutor that he did not receive instructions or money from anyone to carry out the act and said the following:

"I am homeless and stay on the grass under the Nurettin Bayraktar Bridge, which is near the cemetery. The place where I stay is close to the deceased person's grave. I make a living by collecting beverage cans and scavenging. On the day of the incident, I entered the cemetery to collect cans. It was nighttime. I don't remember what time it was. I learned from newspapers and news reports that the deceased person's grave was there. I wanted to look at the grave. Upon this, I went to the grave site. Then, I got angry about the incident where a small child was killed. I lost myself in that moment of anger. Then I pulled the flowers in the cemetery. I lifted and threw the fences. I don't know why I did this.

I carried out the actions in that moment of anger. I don't remember much about the matter anyway. I did not receive any instructions or money from anyone to carry out this incident."

INVESTIGATION COMPLETED

According to the news in Sabah, the investigation conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident has been completed. In the indictment he prepared, the public prosecutor requested a prison sentence of 1 to 4 years for Duran A. for the crime of 'damaging places of worship and cemeteries.'

The indictment sent to the Bakırköy Criminal Court of First Instance has been accepted. Duran A. will appear before the judge in the coming days.
