During yesterday's hearing of the newborn gang trial, defense attorneys targeted Büyükçekmece Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who is leading the investigation and was threatened with death by the gang.
The attorney for Avcılar Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Fetin Rüştü Yıldız stated, "This prosecutor should not have watched a crime being committed. He should have acted primarily to save human life. However, the prosecutor in question watched the deaths of 10 babies. Therefore, we believe that prosecutor Yavuz Engin should be questioned for the crime of intentional homicide."
The attorney for Bağcılar Medilife Hospital Chief Physician Cafer Akdur said, "In our view, the prosecutor is clearly committing a crime. He ignored the Forensic Medicine report and based his case on an expert report. This indictment does not reflect the truth. Leaving aside the press and the public, even a colleague of ours came here, shouted 'murderers' at those present, and left."
Prosecutor Yavuz Engin responded to the accusations in the hearing with a post on his Instagram account.
Prosecutor Engin shared a video featuring the line "Lawyering is not buffoonery, it is an honorable profession" spoken by the "İskender Büyük" character, played by Musa Uzunlar in the TV series Kurtlar Vadisi.
