She withdrew her complaint, the family is up in arms! The crisis in the Oğuz Murat Aci case deepens: What happens next?

While the investigation continues into Timur Cihantimur, who caused the death of 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Aci with a luxury car he was driving without a license in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, a crisis has erupted within the Aci family.

Şükriye Aci, the wife of the deceased, withdrew her complaint from the case, claiming that the material and moral losses she suffered had been compensated.

'MONEY IS SECONDARY,' SHE SAID, BUT WITHDREW HER COMPLAINT

In her statement regarding her decision, Şükriye Aci noted that she was worn out by the process and said, "When my son's rights were being attempted to be taken by others, by people who had no right to them, I did not want to continue with this burden any longer. Money has always been secondary to me."

'MY SON'S BLOOD HAS BEEN SOLD'

However, this decision angered Özer Aci, the father of Oğuz Murat Aci. Claiming that his daughter-in-law made this decision in exchange for financial gain, father Aci expressed his reaction by saying, "As his family, we will never, ever give up on this case," and added:

"The price of withdrawing the complaint is 100 million liras. She sold my son's blood. It doesn't matter how much she sold it for; she shouldn't have sold it. She should have gone hungry, she should have gone thirsty, but she should have remained with honor."

100 MILLION LIRA ALLEGATION

Şükriye Aci responded to the allegations that she withdrew her complaint in exchange for 100 million liras. Arguing that no agreement was made involving money, she spoke as follows:

"There is no such figure. No one gives anyone that much money today. I do not deserve the comments made about me. Only I know what I have been through."

HOW WILL THE LEGAL PROCESS PROCEED?

Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir evaluated how the legal process will proceed regarding the case, which is being closely followed by the public. Reminding that the crime of "intentional killing" is not subject to a complaint, Epözdemir said:

"This crime, which falls under the scope of a public prosecution, is investigated ex officio. A victim withdrawing their complaint does not stop the process. The case will continue."

Touching upon the effects of Şükriye Aci's decision on the case, Epözdemir stated, "From now on, Şükriye Aci cannot be a party to the trial. She will have no right to speak in hearings. She cannot object to the verdict, and she has no right to appeal. She cannot direct questions to the defendants during cross-examination."
