A new era in traffic penalties is beginning with a legislative proposal expected to be discussed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) this week. Monetary fines are being introduced for those who share traffic violations on social media.

With a new legislative proposal to be addressed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this week, a "social media penalty" practice will be implemented in traffic for the first time.
According to the report by Sözcü, drivers who film their traffic rule violations and share them on social media will now face fines of up to 25 thousand liras.
Drivers who drift, weave through traffic, drive in the wrong direction, intentionally violate lane rules, or fail to yield to ambulances or fire trucks and share these moments will face both monetary fines and administrative sanctions.
HEAVY FINES AND DRIVER'S LICENSE SANCTIONS
With the new regulation, not only monetary fines but also driver's license penalties are coming for drivers who violate rules.
Fines ranging from 46 thousand liras to 180 thousand liras will be applied, and in some cases, driver's licenses will be temporarily suspended for up to 30 days.
Those who listen to loud music in their vehicles, cause engine noise, or endanger traffic in convoys and share this on social media will also be fined up to 25 thousand liras.
RECORD FINES FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND DRUGS
The new regulation also introduces strict measures for drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Those driving with an alcohol level above 0.50 promille will face fines between 25 and 50 thousand liras,
while those who get behind the wheel after taking drugs will be subject to a 150 thousand lira fine.
THOSE WHO COVER LICENSE PLATES OR ALTER NUMBERS ARE IN TROUBLE
Drivers who cover their vehicle's license plate or alter letters or numbers on the plate will be given a 140 thousand lira fine.
Additionally, the driver's licenses of those who exceed the speed limit within residential areas by 46 to 55 kilometers will be temporarily suspended for 30 days.
TRAFFIC ASSAULT AND PHONE USE PENALTIES INCREASED
In the same proposal, penalties regarding violence and negligence in traffic are also being toughened. Those who follow a vehicle with the intent to assault or get out of their vehicle to attack another driver will be fined 180 thousand liras.
Drivers who use their phones while driving will be subject to a 5 thousand lira fine.
GOAL: TO ENSURE TRAFFIC SAFETY AND INCREASE DIGITAL OVERSIGHT
The new regulation aims to both increase traffic safety and prevent traffic violations committed in the digital environment. It is stated that social media posts will now be evaluated as evidence in traffic inspections.
