A large-scale operation was carried out against Can Holding as part of an investigation conducted by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Detention warrants were issued for 10 people, including holding owners Mehmet Şakir Can, Kemal Can, and Kenan Tekdağ.
121 companies, including Show TV, Habertürk, and Bloomberg, were seized. The management of the companies was transferred to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF). It was reported that searches are ongoing at the seized companies.
İsmail Saymaz CLAIMS “POLITICAL PERMISSION”
Journalist İsmail Saymaz shared striking information regarding the operation process during a program he attended on Halk TV. Stating that he heard political permission was obtained for the operation, Saymaz noted that there are allegations that approval from Beştepe is obtained for almost all corruption-based operations conducted in recent years.
Saymaz also stated that the operation had been known about for a week and that there was a "power struggle" within the government regarding this process. He said that the button for the operation was pressed once this resistance was broken.
Explaining that the investigation began with a tax audit, Saymaz stated that money laundering amounting to approximately 254 million liras is being discussed. He also said that there are findings indicating that 86 billion liras of funds with unknown sources entered the company in 2020 and 2021.
Emphasizing that the tax audit turned into a criminal organization investigation over time, Saymaz added that the process was carried out by the gendarmerie instead of the police.
Saymaz reminded that Can Holding entered the broadcasting sector last year. He said that Can Holding, which purchased Show TV, Habertürk, and Bloomberg from Ciner Holding, was previously known as the owner of Bilgi University, Doğa College, and Energy Holding.
He stated that Kenan Tekdağ was at the head of these organizations during the Ciner Holding era as well, and that he continued his duty as CEO thanks to his close relations with the Can family, but that he is among those detained within the scope of the operation.
Saymaz stated that Habertürk and Show TV are shown among the last mainstream media outlets not under the influence of the government. He expressed that with this operation, these organizations have also passed under state control.
Saymaz summarized the process by recalling that Flash TV was previously transferred to the TMSF due to a money laundering investigation, and that a trustee was appointed to Ekotürk.
