Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir was taken into custody on the morning of August 10 on charges of "bribery, aiding FETÖ, and espionage."
Journalist Cem Küçük, who is close to the government, made striking claims regarding the investigation into Epözdemir, whose detention period has been extended.
Claiming that the report prepared by the financial police indicates that Epözdemir had acquired a vast fortune and had registered a portion of this wealth under the names of family members, Küçük stated, "It is known that Rezan Epözdemir entered into strange relationships with certain prosecutors and judges, particularly at the Bakırköy Courthouse. In fact, a prosecutor with whom Rezan is alleged to have conducted business is currently serving in Ankara. The truth will emerge following the necessary investigations."
Küçük's article in Türkiye Gazetesi is as follows:
"Rezan Epözdemir acquired a vast fortune. However, he registered a portion of his wealth under the names of family members. These are the initial findings of the financial police reports. As it is, wealth acquired quickly often has some dark sides.
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which is deepening the investigation, has issued new detention orders. It has emerged that Rezan Epözdemir had opened accounts in the names of many people at different banks and was actively using these accounts. It has been determined that the individuals who opened the accounts at the banks have also been taken into custody. Furthermore, the clerk of former Public Prosecutor Cengiz Çallı has also been taken into custody...
Among the allegations is that the multi-million dollar assets of businessman Ahmet Saçaklı were seized using legal means. Ahmet Saçaklı had been unable to seek his rights for a long time. It seems that interesting things will emerge from there as well..."
