Former national footballer and football commentator Serhat Akın was wounded in the foot following an armed attack in Beykoz on September 27 and had returned to the screen after a long treatment process. However, Akın, who left the YouTube channel Sports Digitale where he worked as a commentator shortly after, returned to Germany and made striking statements about the incident on his own YouTube channel.
''ALI KOÇ SAID I WILL FINISH YOU''
Serhat Akın claimed that three days before the armed attack, Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç sent a message to the channel he worked for saying, "I will finish you, it won't be long." Stating that he learned this information after the attack, Akın said he reported the matter to the police but it was not taken seriously.
"Three days before I was shot, Ali Koç sent a message to the company I worked for saying, ‘I will finish you, it won't be long.’ I learned this after I was shot and told the homicide bureau. I said, ‘This message was sent, let it be investigated, I was shot three days later,’ but they backed off. I was asked to make a statement about Acun in the hospital. I want this message to be clarified. Can Ali Koç threaten whoever he wants just because he is the richest man in Turkey?" he said.
''SOME THINGS MAKE YOU THINK''
Akın said he does not know who is behind the attack but that the developments are thought-provoking. Expressing that he did not see the support he expected, especially from the Fenerbahçe community, Akın said that an opening ceremony was held right next to the hospital where he was staying after the incident, but no one came to visit him.
"I played for Fenerbahçe. I won championships against Galatasaray and Beşiktaş. I wore the national team jersey. But when I was in the hospital, there was no one by my side. An opening was held right next to the hospital where I was staying, and Eda Erdem was there too, but no one came to see me. I have been very overwhelmed during this process," he said.
''YOUTUBE CHANNELS UNDER PRESSURE''
Touching on the pressures on the media in Turkey, Akın claimed that even independent YouTube channels are being attempted to be brought under control.
"Certain channels are being called, and they are told, ‘Don’t bring this person on, silence that person.’ Or they buy the channels and place their own people inside. The system works entirely this way. Pressure is being put on the media," he stated.
