Within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul, 121 companies affiliated with Can Holding, including Habertürk and Show TV, were seized. Detention warrants were issued for 10 people, including company executives.
Six of the 10 people detained as part of the investigation were referred to the Küçükçekmece Courthouse on September 15. While 5 of these individuals were arrested, house arrest was ordered for M. Kenan Tekdağ, Chairman of the Board of Can Holding Media Group.
It was stated that the two brother bosses, who are currently fugitives, have not yet been apprehended.
AKP member Şamil Tayyar made a statement on his social media account regarding the course of the investigation. Emphasizing that the process is progressing in a strange way, Tayyar used the following expressions:
“The Can Holding operation is progressing in a strange way. Two brother bosses are fugitives, the chairman of the board is released, and there are 5 detainees inside. Yet, 121 companies within the holding were seized, and Habertürk, Bloomberg, and Show TV were transferred to trustees. The allegations are very grave. Smuggling, fraud, money laundering, criminal organization, and so on.”
“THE POWER STRUGGLE WITHIN THE STATE IS VERY FIERCE”
Drawing attention to the limited number of arrests in the investigation, Tayyar made the following assessment:
“While even security personnel are being taken into custody in the IMM investigation, the fact that this heavy file covering 121 companies is limited to 5 people clearly shows that the power struggle within the state is being fought very fiercely.”
In his statement, Tayyar expressed his hope that what he has heard is incorrect, stating that otherwise, another opportunity for purification would be missed, and added:
“I want to think that what I have heard is a lie. I hope it is a lie. Otherwise, another opportunity for purification will be missed, and it would be a pity.”
