Intervention and rescue efforts are ongoing for a fire that broke out in a 7-story residence on 6653rd Street in the Asmalıevler neighborhood of Denizli's Pamukkale district.
Teams from the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, reaching those trapped in their apartments one by one, are carrying out evacuations using ladder trucks with baskets.
Citizens evacuated from the building are being handed over to medical teams for necessary treatment. In addition to rescue efforts, fire suppression and smoke ventilation operations are continuing.
TERRIFYING MOMENTS EXPERIENCED
According to initial investigations, the fire, which caused terrifying moments in the residence, was determined to have started in the laundry room.
Citizens who could not exit through the smoke-filled corridors headed to the balconies to wait for rescue. While the smoke spreading from the laundry room engulfed the 7-story building, the fire did not spread to the rooms.
While 11 people staying in the 15 rooms used for accommodation were evacuated with the help of the fire department, the rest managed to exit the building on their own. Two people who were affected by smoke and taken to the hospital by ambulance were discharged after receiving treatment.
A FIRE ALSO BROKE OUT 4 YEARS AGO
It has emerged that a fire also broke out on July 23, 2021, in the same residence where 11 people were rescued from balconies this evening. It was learned that during the fire that broke out on the top floor of the building, Ahmet F.E., who was in an apartment on the upper floor, stepped out onto the balcony in a desperate attempt to save his life and survived by jumping to the balcony below amidst the terrified gazes of citizens.
On the other hand, it has been alleged that there is no fire escape in the residence, which is used for daily rentals. An investigation into the fire has been launched.
