Records of him training with weapons were found
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau, Eren Bigül's social media accounts were examined.
During the examination, records related to the actions and activities of the ISIS armed terrorist organization and evidence of him training with weapons at home were found.
"My first contact with a weapon was at age 7"
According to the report by Sabah; Bigül said in his statement: "My first contact with a weapon was at age 7; I first shot at a bottle with an air rifle with my father. Later, I went to a weapons course.
I also went to a shooting range once with my father, Nuhver Bigül, to shoot with a pistol. I am curious about weapons, which is why I went to shoot at the range."
"I collected knives at home, and my family knew about it"
Bigül spoke about the influence of the content he watched on the internet recently and the items he acquired: "I watched ISIS actions on the internet, I listened to the speeches of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on the internet.
About 2 years ago, I bought a switchblade for 400 liras. I also have 2 butterfly knives. I collected knives at home. My family knew about this too."
"I wanted to pass on to the afterlife"
Explaining in his statement that he enjoyed walking around with a mask, Eren Bigül said, "I took photos of myself at the door with a weapon and a mask. I had been thinking about doing something for the last month or two. I wanted to pass on to the afterlife as soon as possible. I didn't want to go to school."
"I thought about attacking the İzmir Fair"
Bigül shared the following statements regarding his planned targets: He explained that he thought about attacking the İzmir Fair; however, he later stated that he gave up on this attack.
Explaining that he planned to attack a bar in İzmir, Bigül said, "The idea of attacking a bar on Ata Street in Balçova came to my mind. I thought about going there and attacking with the same rifle. I wanted to attack because alcohol was being consumed at the bar.
Later, I thought that attack wouldn't happen. I started thinking about attacking the police station near our house. I slept at night, but this thought was on my mind. I got dressed between 06:00 and 07:00 in the morning," he said.
"I had prepared the bullets beforehand"
Bigül also explained his preparations before the attack: Stating that he put on his sweatpants and t-shirt before attacking the police station, Bigül said, "I put on a jacket. I put on my mask. I put the other mask on top of it. I took the automatic shotgun found in the closet.
I had also put the bullets in the bag and prepared them beforehand. I remember putting the bullets in the backpack in August. I put the handmade explosives I used in the attack into my bag.
After combining the explosives and firecrackers, I put steel balls on the outside and prepared them. I had prepared two handmade explosives in this way. I put the switchblade in my bag.
I put the knife in my bag to remove the bullet if I got injured in the clash. I put napkins in to dress my wounds.
I also put cologne to pour on the wound. I also put scissors in my bag to cut fabric to dress my wound," he said.
"I ran to the police station because it was the closest one"
Explaining that the decision to attack the police station started to become clear in the morning, Bigül said: "My mother was not at home, she had gone to work, my father was sleeping. My brother and grandfather were also sleeping.
I was still thinking about whether or not to carry out the attack. When I realized my father was starting to wake up, I left the house so he wouldn't see me like that.
After waiting for 2-3 minutes in the apartment building, I realized I wouldn't return home and I bolted from the building, I ran to the police station because it was the closest one."
He explained how he shot the police officers
Bigül described the clash that occurred when he arrived at the police station with these words: "I fired at two of the uniformed police officers who were sitting in the garden of the station.
After wounding the two police officers, I ran on the street. I tried to reload the rifle, after struggling a bit, I reloaded the rifle. The rifle was 2+1. There were people around.
I didn't fire because I didn't see weapons on the people. Meanwhile, I saw someone with a weapon in his hand, I fired as soon as I saw the person with the weapon in his hand.
I wounded the person, he fell to the ground, he continued to fire at me. The person I fired at did not hit me with any bullets in any way. I fired at this person while I was lying on the ground too."
"I don't know how many of my shots hit"
Summarizing the developments following the incident, Bigül said: "I remember firing a total of 2 or 3 times, I don't know how many of my shots hit.
Meanwhile, I heard the voices of people on the other side. I hid between the cars, I reloaded the rifle, when I heard the shouting, I bolted towards the road, I looked at the hands again, in the place I looked, there was a person with a weapon in his hand, I was hit myself while firing at him.
I did not fire consciously after being hit. During the clash, I also threw the handmade explosives, my purpose here was to ensure that more fire was directed at me."
"I am regretful"
Bigül ended his statement by saying, "I am regretful, what I have said is limited to this."
