Social media posts made by Merve Safa Likoğlu, the daughter of Diyanet President Ali Erbaş, regarding Fetullah Gülen, the leader of the Fetullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), have resurfaced. Likoğlu's messages, in which she used language praising FETÖ, supported the organization's media outlets, and referred to Gülen as "Hocaefendi," have drawn backlash.
HER POSTS HAVE SURFACED
The posts, which are stated to date back to before the July 15 coup attempt, were interpreted as evidence that Likoğlu maintained a stance close to the FETÖ structure at that time.
In a post made during the period of the "dershane" (private tutoring center) crisis, Likoğlu wrote, "Brother, aren't you following Herkül Nağme? Hocaefendi explains everything very clearly. I hadn't even seen him speak this openly before.”
In another post, Likoğlu praised the FETÖ media outlet Zaman newspaper, saying, "It never left our hands. Thank you Zaman. Thank you Yeni Bahar." She also praised the FETÖ-affiliated Kimse Yok Mu Association, stating, "The Kimse Yok Mu Association is in Syria, in the Philippines, in Van. We cannot say 'I couldn't reach them, I couldn't go there.' They are all our people."
SHE LEFT QUESTIONS UNANSWERED
According to a report by Deniz Ayhan from Sözcü, a wave of backlash erupted on social media after the posts surfaced.
Citizens asked questions such as, "Do these tweets praising the FETÖ leader belong to you?" and "Who gave you the Zaman newspaper?" However, Likoğlu did not respond to these questions and quickly deleted the controversial posts.
SHE CHANGED HER ACCOUNT
It was learned that after her posts were exposed, Likoğlu changed the name of her social media account and opened a new one. However, the old posts continue to circulate on social media.
These posts by Likoğlu drew attention particularly because they were made just a few days before the December 17-25 process.
