CHP Chairman Özgür Özel attended a memorial ceremony held at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) for the late Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
After the ceremony, Özel was physically assaulted while exiting the AKM; he escaped the punch attack unharmed, and the assailant, Selçuk Tengioğlu, was taken into custody by police teams.
While the investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the incident continues, the background that has emerged regarding the assailant, Tengioğlu, has shocked the public.
HE MURDERED HIS OWN CHILDREN IN 2004
According to the information obtained, the assailant, Selçuk Tengioğlu, committed a horrific murder in 2004 in the Çay neighborhood of Hatay. On the morning of May 9, 2004, Tengioğlu arrived at his home, first drew his weapon, and shot his 19-year-old son, Barış, and his 17-year-old daughter, Mutlu.
However, realizing that his children were not dead, Tengioğlu then went to the kitchen, grabbed a bread knife, and attacked them again, killing them.
ONE DAUGHTER ESCAPED BY JUMPING FROM THE BALCONY
The third child present in the house during the massacre, 16-year-old Y., jumped from the back balcony of the second-floor apartment to save her life and fled the scene.
