Following Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu's resignation from the CHP and her subsequent move to the AKP, it has been alleged that the AKP is preparing for a new recruitment.
Beykoz Deputy Mayor Özlem Vural Gürzel announced her resignation from the CHP in a statement.
Stating that she did not receive support from her own party, Gürzel noted the following in her statement, saying, "My situation has become unbearable due to the severe slanders and untrue accusations directed at me":
"Despite this, I would like it to be known that I am supported and valued only by the Justice and Development Party and Nationalist Movement Party council members, and most importantly, by the people of Beykoz."
Following Gürzel's resignation, journalist Sinan Burhan brought up a striking claim in a post on his social media account.
Suggesting that Gürzel will join the AKP, Burhan used the following expressions in his post:
"Beykoz Deputy Mayor Özlem Vural Gürzel has resigned from the CHP. She will join the AK Party. Gürzel can continue her duty in the capacity of Deputy Mayor and is subject to mayoral law. The fact that there is a CHP majority in the council does not change this situation. Özlem Vural Gürzel will continue her duty as Deputy Mayor."
Previously, regarding the claims that she would join the AKP, Gürzel had shared a photo on her social media accounts with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently facing legal issues, and used the phrase "Our path is long." According to reports by Dost Beykoz, Gürzel later told the WhatsApp group of council members, "It is not worth dealing with these people; we shared the photos with our Mayor Ekrem as a response."
