'Trustee for IMM' claims are back on the agenda... Fatih Altaylı reports on the rumors circulating in the corridors

The events following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on April 23 have reignited claims that a trustee will be appointed to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). Journalist Fatih Altaylı revealed the date being discussed in the corridors.

Following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that struck at 12:49 on April 23, citizens took to the streets while aftershocks continued in Istanbul. GSM operators failed to function, and the presence of shopping malls and high-rise buildings in some of the designated assembly areas sparked serious criticism.

NO ONE FROM IMM WAS INVITED TO THE AFAD MEETING

Immediately after the earthquake, an AFAD coordination meeting was held in Istanbul under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The meeting was attended by AKP Promotion and Media Head Faruk Acar, AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala, and AKP İstanbul Provincial Chairman Abdullah Özdemir. However, the fact that no official from the IMM was invited to the meeting drew attention and ignited political debates.

BAHÇELİ’S MESSAGE DREW ATTENTION

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli also made the following remarks in his statement after the earthquake:

"It is near for the Istanbul that was forgotten and left to its fate to be replaced by an Istanbul that is developing, growing, and achieving security."

“A TRUSTEE MAY BE APPOINTED”

Journalist Fatih Altaylı evaluated both Bahçeli’s statement and the exclusion of the IMM from the AFAD meeting during his YouTube broadcast.

Stating that rumors regarding the "appointment of a trustee to the IMM" have increased, especially in recent times, Altaylı said, "It is being discussed in the corridors of the ruling party that a trustee could be appointed to the IMM during the Feast of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha)."
