Turkish businesspeople confess: New York Mayor Eric Adams is in trouble

New York Mayor Eric Adams is accused of collecting illegal campaign donations and accepting bribes from the Turkish government and Turkish Airlines officials.

Although Adams denies the allegations, the confessions of Turkish businesspeople have put the mayor in a difficult position.

The hearing for the case was held at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Adams denied the allegations that donations used in his 2021 election campaign were collected through illegal means.

ACCUSED OF MAKING STRAW DONATIONS

However, the indictment states that numerous Turkish businesspeople were accused of making "straw donations." The prosecution stated that these donations were used to benefit from public funds.

The confessions of Turkish businessman Erden Arkan have taken the case to a completely different dimension. Arkan, the owner of the New York-based KSK Construction company, admitted to the donations made to the election campaign and explained that he had Adams' staff write donation checks, and then reimbursed those funds. He also confessed that he knew the donations were being used for public funds.

Arkan pleaded guilty with a request for a sentence reduction. According to documents submitted to the federal court, it is stated that the 76-year-old businessman's sentence will be determined at the hearing on August 15.

While Arkan and his lawyer left questions unanswered after the hearing, it is noted that other evidence presented in court could expand the case.

JURY TO CONVENE ON APRIL 21

Adams will appear before a jury on April 21. Adams, who denies the charges against him, maintains that the campaign donations were in accordance with the law.
