Wealth dispute in Menzil grows: Conflict between followers spills into the courthouse

While the "inheritance" dispute in Menzil, which turned into a stone-and-stick brawl at a mosque, remains on the agenda, followers have now become involved in the wealth struggle between the brothers.

The community's properties in various parts of Turkey have become the subject of lawsuits. Interest-bearing rent was demanded for a building used as a dervish lodge in Adana. In Ankara, followers ended up at the police station over accusations of trespassing.

Cumhuriyet has reached the details of the matter. It was learned that one of the brothers, Muhammed Emin El Hüseyni, applied to the Adana 1st General Enforcement Office to collect receivables regarding the use of a property in Adana that has been used as a dervish lodge since 2019.

For the rent in question, which amounts to 259 thousand TL, a nine percent interest rate and attorney fees were also demanded. Following this, Saki Elhüseyni stated, "Since the title deed for the dervish lodge in Adana was last held by Seyyid Muhammed Emin, they removed the 'sofis' (followers) from there and demanded rent. Meanwhile, they even demanded interest on the rent."

THEY CHANGED THE DOOR LOCK

A similar dispute occurred in Ankara. B.Ş., who applied to the Ufuktepe City Gökhan Osman Karaduman Police Station with an accusation of "violation of residential immunity," claimed that an apartment in Keçiören was entered without permission.

In B.Ş.'s statement, it was noted: "When I went to the apartment, I saw that the lock had been changed. When I went inside, I saw T.Ü. and a few other people whose names I did not know, and I immediately called the police. The police arrived, and I asked the police to remove these individuals from my apartment. I use this apartment from time to time to spend time with my friends and family. I am a complainant and plaintiff against T.Ü. and the individuals with him who entered my apartment without my permission, as well as the locksmith who opened the door."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Following the death of the leader of the Menzil community, whom they call "gavs," Abdülbaki Elhüseyni, his eldest son, Muhammed Saki Elhüseyni, took his place.

The community's wealth, which is stated to reach 17 billion TL, caused a dispute between the brothers.

To resolve the inheritance issue, the community established a "sharia court" at the Menzil Mosque in the village of Menzil, Adıyaman, on October 22, 2024. However, that court was also unable to resolve the dispute between the brothers.
