In the new resolution process, architected by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and dubbed 'Terror-Free Turkey' by the government, all eyes are on when and how the terrorist organization PKK will lay down its arms.
The DEM Party's İmralı delegation traveled to İmralı Island 2 days ago to hold a meeting with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan. Just 1 day after this meeting, the delegation, consisting of Mithat Sancar and Pervin Buldan, went to the Presidential Palace to visit AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Before their meeting with Erdoğan, Sancar and Buldan met with Co-Chairs Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları at the DEM Party Headquarters. Speaking to journalists after this meeting, DEM Party member Pervin Buldan described their upcoming meeting with Erdoğan as 'historic' and, regarding the 12 soldiers who were martyred in the methane gas tragedy, said, "We have received truly very sad news. This is where the value of peace becomes clear. We can better understand how precious the peace process is in such situations. Peace must progress so that no more of our people lose their lives from now on."
Mithat Sancar also stated, "As we already mentioned in our statement yesterday, we are truly deeply saddened. This news arrived while we were in a meeting yesterday. It deeply saddened all of us, including Mr. Öcalan. We have a duty to advance this path so that such pain is not experienced. We wish God's mercy upon them all. We offer our condolences."
Following these statements, the delegation went to the Presidential Palace. During the meeting, which lasted approximately 1 hour, Erdoğan was accompanied by MIT Undersecretary İbrahim Kalın and AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala.
Making a statement after the meeting, Buldan and Sancar said, "A very productive and good meeting took place. Every issue was evaluated within a broad framework. The most important item on the table was the laying down of arms and the timeline; the process was laid out, and it was a meeting with a commission agenda. The meeting discussed how this disarmament would function and how the timeline would proceed. One of the important topics was the establishment of a commission in Parliament regarding a 'Terror-Free Turkey'. As the DEM delegation, we conveyed to President Erdoğan that we want the commission to be established and to begin working in the summer months."
In a written statement issued by the DEM Party regarding the meeting, it was said, "Our DEM Party İmralı delegation members Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Beştepe today. Our delegation conveyed their views and suggestions regarding the new stage the process has reached and what will be done from now on. It was emphasized during the meeting that the mutual will to advance the process continues."
