Gdz Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. refutes İzmir Governor: No concrete evidence

Gdz Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. announced that, according to initial assessments conducted in the field, there is no concrete evidence that the forest fires in İzmir originated from power lines, adding that they are closely monitoring the process and continuing field operations in cooperation with relevant institutions.

In the statement issued by Gdz Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. regarding the forest fires in the region, it was stated: "The forest fires that continue to affect our country have deeply saddened us all.

We wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives in the fires and extend our condolences to their families and loved ones; we convey our best wishes for a speedy recovery to all our citizens who share our pain.

It is observed that some news reports reflected in the public domain include claims that the fires were caused by electricity. First and foremost, we would like to state clearly that, according to initial assessments conducted in the field, there is no concrete evidence that the fires in our region originated from power lines.

"WE ARE ALWAYS BY THEIR SIDE"

Fires caused by electricity are not events that can only occur in the summer months. However, in the summer months, when temperatures rise significantly, humidity levels drop, and high-speed winds occur, the risk of fire is greater than ever. This situation is a result of the serious change in weather conditions observed during these periods, both in our country and especially in the Mediterranean belt countries, as has been the case all over the world in recent years.

For this reason, hundreds of forest fires have broken out in our country and neighboring countries in the last week due to extreme weather heating and a sharp drop in humidity levels. 

As the electricity distribution infrastructure operator of the region, we are closely monitoring the process and continuing our work in the field in full cooperation with the relevant institutions. We wish ease to all teams fighting selflessly against the fire and want it to be known that we are always by their side," the statement said.

GOVERNOR ELBAN HAD MADE THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT:

'We assess that the fire started from the power line. According to both the initial assessment of our technical teams and the statements of eyewitnesses in the vicinity, it is said that the fire started from the power line'
