General Directorate of Forestry plane crashes in Croatia

Contact had been lost with a firefighting plane belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Croatia. Minister Yumaklı announced that the plane had crashed and that the pilot had been martyred.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry issued a statement regarding the plane via its social media account. The statement from the Ministry included the following:

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Two of our AT802 firefighting planes belonging to our General Directorate of Forestry departed from Çanakkale on Wednesday, November 12, at 10:24 AM for scheduled maintenance in Zagreb, Croatia. Due to meteorological conditions, the two planes spent the night at Rijeka Airport in Croatia. Following their departure for Zagreb Airport today (Thursday, November 13, 2025) at 5:38 PM Turkish time, they turned back to Rijeka Airport due to adverse weather conditions.

During the return route, one of our planes landed at Rijeka Airport, but radio contact with the other plane was lost at 6:25 PM Turkish time.

Search and rescue efforts have been initiated in coordination with Croatian units to reach our pilot on duty and the plane.

We will continue to inform the public as details regarding the matter become clear.

The wreckage of our firefighting plane belonging to our General Directorate of Forestry, with which radio contact was lost in Croatia, has been located near the city of Senj, Croatia.

I pray for God's mercy upon our pilot who was martyred in this tragic accident, and I extend my condolences and patience to his family and loved ones.
