The 6 products that received geographical indication certificates through the initiative of the Governor's Office were introduced at a program held at the Gastronomy House located in the EXPO Area.
Governor Mustafa Masatlı stated in his speech at the program that it is of great importance to include the richness of Hatay cuisine, which has reached the present day with all its characteristics, in the geographical indication inventory.
Stating that they are taking the necessary steps without slowing down for the city, which was affected by the earthquakes, to get back on its feet, Masatlı noted that restarting the wheels of the economy is also among their important and priority goals.
Masatlı expressed that the preparation, processing, and production of local products are particularly important both for revitalizing the province's economy and for increasing people's motivation.
Reminding that geographical indication certificates had previously been obtained for 25 products unique to the city, Masatlı continued as follows:
"As the Hatay Governor's Office, we have increased our number of geographical indications to 31 with our 6 new local dishes that we applied for and which were registered—meaning they received patents—according to the results announced in recent days: şeyh mualla dish, şiş börek soup, tepsi oruğu, zılk sarması, cevizli biber, and hummus. We have 85 more applications pending. Once these are concluded, with our 116 geographical indications, our Hatay will rank among the top in Turkey in terms of the number of geographical indications and will reach the place it deserves."
Masatlı said that they are aware of the riches of the country and Hatay, and that they are determined to carry the country and the city even further by ensuring that these riches are registered on every platform.
Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Öntürk also expressed his happiness that 6 products belonging to Hatay received geographical indication registration certificates.
Following the speeches, the 6 products that received geographical indication certificates were served to the participants.
