German Chancellor Scholz: 'Detention of İmamoğlu is a bad sign for democracy'

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in his assessment regarding the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, stated that it is a very bad sign for Turkey's democracy.

Chancellor Scholz said that the detention of İmamoğlu is also a bad sign for relations between Europe and Turkey.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had emphasized in her statement yesterday that the detention of İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was extremely worrying.
