As part of a 'tender corruption investigation' launched in Istanbul, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat was detained yesterday morning (January 13) in a dawn operation at his father's house in Balıkesir.

While Akpolat's processing at the Vatan Police Headquarters continues, a giant poster featuring an image of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his quote, "Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation," was hung on the Beşiktaş Municipality building.

In the morning hours, CHP Deputy Chairman in charge of Local Governments Gökan Zeybek, CHP Ardahan Deputy Özgür Erdem İncesu, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik, Sarıyer Mayor Mustafa Oktay Aksu, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, Kartal Mayor Gökhan Yüksel, Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu, CHP Trabzon Deputy Sibel Suiçmez, and CHP Muğla Deputy Cumhur Uzun arrived at the Beşiktaş Municipality to hold a meeting.
