Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan made statements at the Parliamentary Research Commission on the Prevention of Violence and Discrimination Against Women.
Minister Işıkhan stated, "We have begun our work to increase maternity leave and to eliminate the differences between workers and civil servants. We are also bringing the issue of maternity leave durations to the agenda of the Population Policies Board. We are working to further increase the leave durations."
According to current practice, female employees are entitled to a total of 16 weeks of leave, consisting of 8 weeks before birth and 8 weeks after birth.
The leave duration granted to fathers varies according to their employment status. While this period is 10 days for civil servants, it is applied as 5 days for workers.
