Good news from Istanbul's dams: Occupancy rate rises to 29.98 percent

In Istanbul, following the impact of consecutive rainy weather systems, occupancy rates in the dams have increased.

According to data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), the occupancy rate in the city's dams has risen from 17.08 percent to 25.44 percent in the last 14 days. While the Alibeyköy Dam had lost a significant amount of water due to the ongoing drought, with its occupancy rate once dropping to 10 percent, it has now reached 29.98 percent. The largest increase was seen at the Elmalı Dam, where the occupancy rate rose from 20.92 percent to 46.67 percent.

RAINFALL FILLS THE DAMS

Following a dry summer and autumn in Istanbul, the increase in dam occupancy rates has gained momentum with the rainfall experienced in recent days. The precipitation that has been effective across Istanbul has had a positive impact on the dams. According to İSKİ data, as of today, the average occupancy rate in the dams was measured at 25.44 percent. Just 14 days ago, the occupancy rate in the dams was at the 17.08 percent level.

The Alibeyköy Dam, which plays an important role in Istanbul's water supply, was positively affected by the increased rainfall. In the last 14 days, the dam's occupancy rate rose rapidly from 17.66 percent to 29.98 percent. At the Sazlıdere Dam, the occupancy rate increased from 2.92 percent to 9.37 percent. The Elmalı Dam saw the highest increase; the occupancy rate, which was 20.32 percent two weeks ago, was recorded at 46.67 percent as of today. The dam with the highest occupancy rate in Istanbul was the Ömerli Dam at 47.37 percent. The Papuçdere Dam, which had almost dried up due to the drought, was recorded as the dam with the lowest occupancy rate at 6.64 percent.
