Government to cancel fines issued for APP license plates

Recently, traffic fines issued due to non-standard license plates have drawn significant backlash. The government has taken action to cancel these fines and has begun preparations for a legal regulation.
FINES TO BE CANCELLED UNDER NEW REGULATION
The AKP is preparing a legal regulation to lift the fines issued for non-standard license plates following the new Traffic Law. This provision is expected to be added to the draft law concerning personnel of the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Security. The new regulation aims to provide relief to vehicle owners regarding these fines, which have sparked widespread public reaction.
FINES WILL BE WAIVED IF PLATES ARE CHANGED BY APRIL 1
According to the prepared formula, fines issued to drivers who bring their license plates into compliance with the rules by April 1 will be cancelled. Legal steps will be taken regarding the fines applied to vehicle owners who change their plates by this date. It is reported that, as of now, more than 800 vehicle owners have been issued fines totaling over 100 million liras.
NEW REGULATION ALSO IMPOSES FINES ON DRIVERS' CHAMBERS
The new regulation also envisions sanctions for drivers' chambers that issue non-compliant license plates. An administrative fine of 10,000 liras will be imposed on drivers' chambers for each instance in which they produce a non-compliant plate. This development is considered an important step toward ensuring that license plates are orderly and meet standards.
Regulatory changes regarding fines for non-standard license plates are also on the agenda. Inspections and technical regulations concerning APP license plate practices are expected to be implemented through upcoming regulatory amendments.
STATEMENT FROM ÇİFTÇİ: "FINES WILL BE ERASED"
In line with the statements made by Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Çiftçi had stated on March 11 that these fines would be erased. Çiftçi had noted that vehicle owners were granted a grace period until April 1 and that they would not implement any penalties, saying, "We will take the necessary steps to ensure our citizens do not experience any grievances." However, debates had arisen regarding Çiftçi's authority to "erase fines."
