Governor says 'ban' on Taksim, all eyes on DİSK!
Following Istanbul Governor Davut Gül's "ban" announcement regarding Taksim Square, which has been closed to May 1 Labor Day celebrations since 2012, all eyes have turned to labor unions and mass organizations.

Despite the Constitutional Court's 'violation of rights' ruling issued 5 months ago, Taksim Square is not being opened for May 1 celebrations. The application for Taksim by the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) has been rejected by the Istanbul Governor's Office.
Governor Gül stated that Taksim would be closed to celebrations on May 1, saying, "It will be celebrated in any area other than Taksim."
Following this statement, all eyes turned to DİSK. DİSK President Arzu Çerkezoğlu had emphasized in a statement made on April 2 that they would celebrate May 1 en masse in Taksim Square.
The DİSK administration will meet on Thursday, April 25, to determine their roadmap for May 1 in line with the Governor's Office's 'ban on Taksim' decision.
