Greek elements removed the motors from the rubber boats of illegal migrants attempting to cross from the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale to the Greek island of Lesbos, pushing them back into Turkish territorial waters and abandoning them to death. The migrants, who were left helplessly waiting for rescue in the middle of the sea, were saved by teams from the Coast Guard North Aegean Group Command.

A total of 40 migrants, including 17 children, who had been abandoned to death, were handed over to the Repatriation Center in Ayvacık following the completion of their processing.
