Green light for 'new constitution' from DEM Party
DEM Party's Koçyiğit stated regarding the new constitution efforts, "A chance must be given. Not to the AKP, but to the issue of drafting a new constitution; the environment for this must be pushed."

Responding to journalists' questions, DEM Party Group Deputy Chairperson Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit stated that everyone has a different perception of 'normalization' these days and that this issue is being read through social camps.
As reported by Gülsen Solaker from DW Türkçe, Koçyiğit said the following:
The most striking example of this is that there are many political prisoners in jail, and from our perspective, they are in the position of hostages. But when a discourse is built around the injustices in prisons, it is only built around Osman Kavala or the Gezi detainees. This itself is a double standard. If we are to normalize, we must first start normalizing by starting with the language of the opposition. In other words, if you mention Kavala but do not mention Demirtaş, Yüksekdağ, or Kışanak, you are not creating a perception of normality there.
Koçyiğit stated that while saying this, she is talking about a normalization not just for the DEM Party but for all anti-democratic practices, noting that under this scope, issues such as the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, in addition to injustices in the judiciary, can also be counted.
"AKP-MHP IS TAILORING A SHIRT FOR THE OPPOSITION"
Expressing that the AKP-MHP alliance is not only consolidating its own base but also tailoring a shirt for the opposition and drawing a boundary for discourse, Koçyiğit says, "Unfortunately, the opposition has always been trapped within those boundaries, especially in past periods. It has always conducted politics within those boundaries, and in that sense, we have always been the 'other.' We were the 'other' of the government, but at the same time, we were also a party that the opposition hesitated to appear in a joint photo with."
"CHP SHOULD TAKE A CLEARER STANCE ON TRUSTEES"
Stating that they find it 'valuable' that the CHP is currently pursuing a clearer stance regarding the appointment of trustees compared to the past, Koçyiğit continued her words as follows:
This is truly a very valuable thing. It is not valuable just because it is the DEM Party. It is very valuable in terms of Turkey's democratization. Because all anti-democratic practices are applied to us first; when there is no outcry and no collective reflex is formed, they can then be applied to others. As the saying goes, we shouldn't have given up the yellow ox. That is the issue. We are the ones who take the first beating, but Turkey needs to see that this beating will reach everyone.
