Green light from the Palace to DEM Party's 'Öcalan' request! 'As a founding and fundamental will...'

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli is the architect of the new resolution process, which the government has named Terror-Free Turkey. As the commission established in the TBMM continues its work within this scope, the DEM Party front has recently been calling for the commission to meet with PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan.

While support for DEM's call has come from the MHP front, the Palace has also given a green light to this request.

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's chief advisor Mehmet Uçum argued that the objections raised against the request to hear terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan are baseless.

Stating that “the commission hearing Öcalan does not mean negotiation,” Uçum claimed that the argument that “the state is going to Öcalan's feet” is invalid.

"In the new legislative year of the TBMM, it is seen that in addition to its routine agenda consisting of comprehensive legislative and oversight work that meets the needs of the public and election procedures, it will also stand out with its non-routine activities and legislative actions."

"THE COMMISSION HAS PRODUCED A TREMENDOUS EXPERIENCE"

"It is understood that the hearing activity of the TBMM National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, which is currently working, will be completed soon. The hearing activities carried out by the commission to date have been extremely beneficial. They have provided significant contributions in terms of democratic practice. No one should underestimate this activity. The inclusive approach of this delegation, which represents the total will of the TBMM, has produced a tremendous experience in terms of Turkey's democratic experience."

"The issue of hearing Öcalan in İmralı is also being discussed. Two main arguments are put forward against this:

First, the view that it is unacceptable for the delegation representing the TBMM to negotiate with Öcalan. However, the commission did not exchange ideas with anyone it called; it only listened. In other words, this is not a negotiation, but a hearing activity.

Therefore, hearing Öcalan will likewise be only a hearing activity.

The second is the argument that 'a delegation representing the TBMM cannot go to Öcalan's feet.' This is a wrong approach. Öcalan is in a penal institution belonging to the state. The fact that TBMM representatives go to state institutions cannot be seen as going to anyone's feet."

"ÖCALAN'S ROLE SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED"

"In the transition process, one should not ignore the importance of the decisions made by Öcalan as a founding and fundamental will regarding the dissolution of the terrorist organization and definitive laying down of arms. After transitioning to a Terror-Free Turkey, the possibility of contributing to the integration of the circles where Öcalan is influential into democratic politics and the integration of external elements into society should also be taken into account. The state's policy regarding the transition process takes all of this into account. Otherwise, the state does what is necessary for its survival."

"THE PARLIAMENT WILL SIGN HISTORIC WORKS"

"After the hearing activity is completed, the commission is expected to submit its report on the law of the transition process to a Terror-Free Turkey to the TBMM Presidency as soon as possible. It is foreseen that in line with this report, the TBMM will initiate and complete its legislative activity by taking into account the practical confirmations of the definitive laying down of arms. Furthermore, the commission is expected to complete its duty by preparing a report that includes an advanced democracy perspective in accordance with the concept of democracy."

At the end of his statement, Uçum stated that he believes the TBMM will sign historic works in this legislative year and expressed the following:

"We have full faith that the TBMM will play its historical role in the most successful way in this historical period, ensure the transition to a Terror-Free Turkey, and subsequently initiate a move for advanced democracy reform."
