Greenland Prime Minister stands up to Trump

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has issued a sharp response to US President Donald Trump's statements regarding his desire to bring Greenland under his country's control. In a post on his social media account, Nielsen emphasized that the US would not be able to carry out such a plan.

"President Trump says the US will acquire Greenland. Let me be clear: the US will not acquire it. We do not belong to anyone. We determine our own future," Nielsen stated, emphasizing Greenland's independence.

US Vice President James David (JD) Vance visited Greenland with his delegation on March 28 and claimed that the Danish administration was "not investing enough" in the island's security. Vance's remarks were met with backlash from both the Greenlandic and Danish governments.

"WE MUST TAKE OWNERSHIP OF GREENLAND"

Trump, who has frequently expressed his desire to bring Greenland under his country's control since returning to office, had stated at a meeting in the White House that "we need to have ownership of Greenland" to ensure international security.

Trump expressed discomfort with ships belonging to China and Russia navigating around the island, stating, "We do not trust Denmark or anyone else to handle this situation."

US WANTS MORE POWER IN GREENLAND

Following Trump, US Vice President JD Vance, who visited Greenland, also argued that the US presence on the island should be increased.

Vance said, "This is a big issue and it will grow even bigger over the coming decades. We need to have more positions in Greenland," adding that he believes the people of Greenland will eventually side with the US without the need for military force.
