A research team led by Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar has reached remarkable results in a study on glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive and deadly types of brain cancer.
In experiments conducted on mice, it was determined that glioblastoma tumors were completely eradicated. It was stated that the necessary authorization processes for the study to be applied to humans are continuing.
NEW TREATMENT METHOD FOR GLIOBLASTOMA
Within the scope of the research, a molecule called EdU, which targets cell division, was administered together with Temozolomide (TMZ), a standard chemotherapy drug currently in use. It was observed that this combination completely eliminated tumor tissue in mice.
The results of the experiment noted that the treatment targeted only cancerous cells and did not cause any damage to healthy brain tissue.
LONG-TERM SURVIVAL OBSERVED IN MICE
In the study, it was shared that the mice treated survived for a long time and the disease did not recur. The researchers reported that the data obtained points to an important milestone in the treatment of glioblastoma.

The results of the experimental treatment were detailed in the research published in PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences), the scientific journal of the National Academy of Sciences, of which Aziz Sancar is a member.
The scientific publication emphasized that the method is safe and that healthy tissues are protected while targeting cancerous cells.
